With BLACKPINK winning the Best Metaverse Performance during the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) for PUBG Mobile‘s first virtual concert series, the popular battle royale game expressed gratitude to gamers and the Blinks for The Virtual‘s success.

Running over two weekends in July, the immersive audio-visual experience captivated the world with a total of 15.7 million views across the concert series. The nine-minute in-game show, PUBG Mobile’s first virtual stage for a concert series, featured virtual performances of BLACKPINK’s chart-topping hits and the debut of a new special track Ready For Love.

Vincent Wang, the head of PUBG Mobile Publishing at Tencent Games thanked the gamers and the Blinks for BLACKPINK’s VMAs 2022 wins.

“We want to thank all of our players and BLINKs alike for their support in making this PUBG MOBILE’s biggest partnership yet. It’s been such an honor bringing the incredible music of BLACKPINK into PUBG Mobile,” he said. “PUBG Mobile always wants to present its players with new cutting-edge experiences and to be at the forefront of popular culture.”

It can be recalled that MTV recently introduced the Best Metaverse Performance as a new category to the VMAs to honor the virtual concerts that were held in video games in recent years, especially as a result of live in-person concerts getting postponed due to the pandemic.

Aside from the concert series, the music video of BLACKPINK X PUBG MOBILE special track, Ready For Love, was released as part of the partnership, has now been watched over 146 million times. It transported BLACKPINK member’s avatars into iconic locations from the PUBG Mobile universe from the island of Erangel, the rainforest of Sanhok, the desert of Miramar, the icy tundra of Vikendi, and across a sea of flowers in Livik. Familiar game elements such as airdrop, helmets, planes, and bullets embellish the video to further immerse viewers in the PUBG Mobile world.

The video marks the first BLACKPINK appearance in avatar form for a music video and the first time PUBG Mobile’s collaboration with artists on a music video featuring virtual images.

“It was a great pleasure for us to have another meaningful partnership with PUBG Mobile. Hope we can show various sides of BLACKPINK through music and more,” YG Entertainment expressed.
