Scholars of Barangay San Antonio (BSA), Pasig are now getting up to P50,000 annually as the barangay started to prioritize education now—amid the trying times—more than ever.

With the aim to help less-privileged students pursue their dreams, BSA Chairman Raymond Lising has been very hands on in leading this initiative in the middle of the pandemic, allotting over P5 million worth of scholarship grants this year and intending to help more in the coming year.

“For this year, we spent about P5 million for BSA scholarships, so far. Iba-iba ang tuition but technically maximum of P50,000 annual assistance for matriculation with P1,500 monthly allowance for each,” Lising disclosed.

This 2022, the barangay was able to help a total of 149 grantees. A scholar can get up to P25,000 per semester as the BSA ensures to give them enough assistance for their studies.

‘A lasting legacy’

Lising has also been very vocal on how they see the scholarship program as a lasting “legacy” that they can leave to the community.

“Ito ang isang programa na maganda ang maiiwan na legacy sa aming komunidad. Isa din ito sa dahilan kaya natin pinarami ang beneficiaries ng BSA College Scholarship Program,” he stressed, assuring that the barangay will continue to invest in education, especially for those who need help the most.

“BSA will continue to invest in the education of the less-privileged, especially for those who would want to pursue their studies,” he said.

“For next year, we will push to increase the budget allocation of our scholarship program in anticipation of more scholarship grants,” he disclosed.

It can be recalled that the BSA is the first barangay in the Pasig to give ATM cards to scholars as it seeks to be more innovative by utilizing technology amid the pandemic.

“Sa umpisa ng school year, ang aming scholars din ay nakakatanggap ng school supplies mula sa BSA,” the official further stated.
