The Antipolo Cathedral is now the first international shrine in the Philippines and the 11th globally with the long-awaited Solemn Declaration of the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage that took place on Friday, January 26.
In a statement, The Antipolo Cathedral Facebook page shared that almost 80 bishops from different places in the country, as well as hundreds of priests, came to witness the historic moment.
“The long-awaited Solemn Declaration of the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage was nothing but a successful event. Almost 80+ bishops from the Philippines and hundreds of priests from the Diocese of Antipolo were united to witness and celebrate the said event,” it said.
In 2022, the Vatican declared the approval of the petition to raise the cathedral’s status to an international shrine.
The Most Rev. Charles John Brown, D.D., Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, presided both the Rite of Coronation and Solemn Declaration.
Top government officials also arrived to witness the event.
“As we conclude the historical event, let us express all our gratitude to Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary for guiding all the people behind this prosperous event,” it went on.
