Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo honored her mother, Divine Geronimo, after receiving the Global Force Award at the Billboard Women In Music Awards held in Los Angeles, California.
In an interview with Billboard hosts Rania Aniftos and Lilly Singh, Sarah expressed her love and admiration for Mommy Divine when asked how she felt about being part of an event that champions women.
“Women, especially mothers out there. Shout out to my mother, Mommy Divine Geronimo, you are the best! You are my hero! I love you very much! I cannot imagine myself being a mother, all the sacrifices that a mother has to do for their child, it’s mind blowing,” she said.
In her acceptance speech, Sarah also thanked her parents for their unconditional love and support.
“Thank you to my parents, thank you sa aking nanay at tatay. Maraming maraming salamat po for your unconditional love, for believing in me, for supporting me. To my family, to my manager Vic del Rosario and Viva,” she added.
“To my husband Matt, thank you for encouraging me and pushing me to be a better version of myself everyday.”
The singer also said the recognition signifies courage and hope for the artists in the music industry.
“Courage to accept and embrace one’s self, courage to break boundaries and defy standards, courage to rise above all the setbacks that every artist has to face,” Sarah explained.
“And the hope that one day, this recognition will bridge the gap between the Philippines and other nations to create change and positivity in the world through the power of music.”
Sarah also expressed her gratitude to Billboard and Billboard Philippines.
“Thank you very much Billboard for celebrating Women In Music, and of course, for giving our country this meaningful recognition. Maraming maraming salamat Billboard Philippines for your commitment to bring our music, Filipino music and more Filipino artists to a global audience.”
